Alengot Oromait

Alengot Proscovia Oromiat is an elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Usuk County, Katakwi District in Uganda.
Alengot was born in the year 1993 and is from Katakwi District, Uganda and is the second child among ten children. She took after her father Michael Oromait, who was an elected Parliament Member of the same district, before his unfortunate death in the year 2012.
Alengot has always possessed leadership traits.
She completed her high school (S6) at St. Kalemba Senior Secondary School in Kayunga District, Uganda and is currently studying Mass Communication at Uganda Christian University in Mukono since 2012.
She is a member of Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement party.
She joined the party in 2012 and it was under the party that she secured her seat in the Parliament. Her victory was a historic one as it made her the youngest legislator not just in Africa but the world.
Her decision was a rather brave and intuitive one as she defied all odds with her win.
She was a huge factor behind her father’s victory, actively campaigning and gathering youths to vote for him and missing school in the process.
While in secondary school, she was always writing articles and taking photos for the school magazine. Her school teachers say her writings displayed a foundation they had seen and it was no surprise to them when they heard she was contesting.
She deals with such issues as the environment, education, health policy and gender issues.
Forbes honoured her as one of the Top 20 Young Power Women in Africa 2013.
