Mimi Alemayehou


Mimi Alemayehou is an expert in International business. Mimi is currently the Executive Advisor and Chair of Blackstone Africa Infrastructure L.P.
She was born in the year 1969 in Ethiopia, although she spent most of her early years in Kenya. She later migrated to the United States where she eventually got citizenship by naturalization.
Mimi got her first degree from West Texas A&M University in the United States before proceeding to Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where she obtained her Masters in International Business and International Law and Development.
She began her successful career at the U.S. Congress working directly with U.S. Representative, Mac Thornberry.
Mimi also managed a multi-country trade project in Africa for the International Executive Service Corps, and was Director of International Regulatory Affairs for WorldSpace Corporation,a satellite telecommunications company before establishing a development consulting firm “Trade Links”.
She was also the United States Executive Director at the African Development Bank (AfDB) and was basically concerned with executing various board decisions on behalf of the United States Government and she excelled quite well during her period there.
Her success led to a personal recommendation by President Obama for nomination as the Executive Vice President of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the U.S. government’s development finance institution.
She was highly relevant to the tripling of the corporation’s Africa portfolio to nearly $4 billion.
In 2013, she was named among the 20 Young African Power women by Forbes.
