6 Questions To Ask Yourself That Make you A Better Leader In The Home & At Work

By Duchess Magazine

Whether you are in the corporate world, a bold and rising entrepreneur, a homemaker or a growing young lady, the role of leadership is in high demand. A modern feminine presence in leadership is today being summoned in new and powerful ways but few are those who’ve heeded to this calling in a lawful way that aligns with the laws of life. Most individuals appear to be struggling with their success once they get the chance to take up a leadership role probably because they are attempting to produce new results and a new way of life while using the old model view of life.

The Modern African woman is today enjoying one of the greatest moments in history as she finally has all doors opening out in every direction personally and financially. The world is becoming our playing ground and every corner of this planet is easily accessible for anyone regardless of location. We can create relationships both personally and professionally with any human being alive in our little planet. As such, our desires are every growing and the need to create bigger, better things in life continues to increase each day. In governance, industrialization, commerce and so on, we have equal opportunities with our male counterparts and it’s getting better each day (let no one tell you different). What is needed though is for the Modern Woman to realize that the opportunities she has opening out especially in the professional world cannot be based on competition or rivalry as so many seem to think. To be a great leader and have your spot guaranteed means that you bring to the table something that has so far been absent; it doesn’t meant trying to elbow your way into “talking” what another has.

If I could wish to convince the modern African woman of one thing it would be this: Your spot as a leader or someone of great value isn’t threatened by anyone or anything. If you can find the authentic leader in you and bring out what you really came here to give to the world, the spot would automatically open up and you would realize there has always been space for you to thrive in whatever industry you’re in. Therefore I feel that as we see more and more countries developing in Africa and catching up with the rest of the developed continents, it’s paramount that we at the same time introduce new trainings an awareness that helps shift the mindset of the rising women. To carry the old model view of life that our foremothers had is to secretly self-sabotage because that mindset just wasn’t developed enough to deal with current issues or to take up much of the roles that are today available for all of us. In simple words, I am saying it’s about time you stop being sloppy with yourself and start proactively growing yourself mentally, emotionally and spiritually if you wish to take your life to the next level. You can’t continue playing wishful thinking about the kind of freedom you want to enjoy in life or cause tantrums over the slow progress or failures you’re experiencing! And you also can’t keep playing that blame game that most women seem to get a kick out of…If you want to be a leader in your space and enjoy a thriving lifestyle then you need to do something you haven’t done before.

The old way of running your life will only get you what you’ve already gotten in the past and as we all know, the old way of creating success is a strenuous, arduous way, which produces more harm than good long-term. I am a strong believer in having it all in life. You can have your cake and eat it too as long as you are in alignment with your law of being. As a matter of fact, we are seeing more and more people proving that this is possible. It is the true definition of success and the way forward for future generations, so if your desire is to become a leader in your circle of influence under whatever title, I encourage taking on leadership as a modern individual with a new mindset.

A true leader in our world today knows that one of the most important things he or she can do is to take care of oneself. You have to learn how to take care of yourself first. If you are taking care of yourself mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically then you’ll effortlessly show up for others and serve them far better. The only way you can unleash you true power and serve at the highest level that merits ever increasing rewards and fulfillment in life is when you fully live from your true Self. Operating your life professionally and personally from this perspective is what will help you avoid the burnout, stress and overall overwhelm that disintegrates most of the hardworking individuals in leadership roles. A lot of them still haven’t awakened to truth or aren’t willing to create new mindsets because they still live life backwards assuming that material success or outer accomplishments are what bring happiness and inner fulfillment.

A spiritual teacher whom I absolutely love and follow is Deepak Chopra. In my opinion he’s one of the best spiritual teachers alive today and I recently attended one of his trainings where he gave a really wonderful definition of a leader. He said a leader is the soul of a group consciousness. I just love that! And isn’t it befitting that more women are feeling the urge to step up and become the soul of a group consciousness? It comes more natural to the feminine energy to be the holding glue and the spark of hope that holds the vision of the group and propels them forward till the mission is accomplished. But for a woman to effectively succeed at this, she must be in her alignment and purpose. She must know who she is and what gifts she’s giving. It can’t be about “getting power”, that’s all part of the old mess that has ended up creating the current drama in different parts of the world. If anything, the world is crying for the modern woman’s leadership presence because as Lao Tzu says, “the feminine values are the fountain of bliss. Know the masculine, keep to the feminine.” No one can deny the profound truth in his words especially if we look to the world today; yet as women, we must be cautious as we suit up and get into the playing field of leaders. Let us not suit up in the same armor of the masculine for are we not feminine for a specific and divine reason? Our creator is intelligence itself and if you are made to be a physical manifestation of the feminine presence it is only because the best you have to give, which will benefit your world can and will only come through that authentic you. Logically, if your best leadership role comes from being and developing the authentic you, can there be any real competition anywhere?

So I encourage you to become a leader in your world regardless of what you do, and as Deepak says, remember that being a leader you are choosing to be the soul of the group whether it’s at home or at work. When we dream together it becomes reality fast. Here then are my 6 questions also inspired by Deepak to help you figure out who you are and what you can offer as a leader in your space. Ask yourself these questions every day and work at living them not just answering them.

  1. Who Am I?
  2. What Do I Really Want?
  3. What Is My Life Purpose?
  4. What Kind Of Contribution Do I want to Give To The World?
  5. What Are My unique Skills & Talents and How Can I use Them To Serve?
  6. What Does A Meaningful Relationship Mean To Me & How Can I Contribute To The Relationships I Have?

Of course if you have never asked yourself these questions before you might need a little help expanding on each so you can have greater clarity on your path and really get in tune with your soul so you can be a magnet to the kind of lifestyle and leadership roles you wish to create.
