#BlackQueen ?? Dr. Lindsey Harris Makes History As First Black President of the Alabama Nurses Association

TheĀ Alabama State Nurses Association’s 106 history has been rewritten with the election of Dr. Lindsey Harris as the first black woman to ever head the organization.

Currently serving as president-elect, Harris set to take over Friday will help the Alabama State Nurses Association (ASNA) in their goal towards increase access to quality, affordable healthcare, and promote diversity regardless of race and ethnicity.

Incorporated in 1914, the state-run nursing organizations is focused on eliminating parity in the industry.

Dr. Harris, a former president of the Birmingham Black Nurses Association, Inc. (BBNA) and a current member of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) earned her Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from Samford University, her master of science in nursing as a family nurse practitioner, and her doctor of nursing practice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing, according to the official press release announcing her win,

Harris told WVTM that she wants to see that ā€œwith perseverance and hard work that you too can make history, you too can lead the way.ā€
