Tracey Ellis Ross Dishes On Being Called A Poster Child For Single Women – I want to be the poster child for living my life on my terms

Hollywood sweetheart Tracee Ellis Ross, 48 is proudly embracing the beauty of life as a single woman but has countlessly faced questions about her single status from the media, asking why she is yet to get hitched or have a child.

In a recent chat with Harper’s BAZAAR, the Black-ish opened up on what it’s like to have her personal life being poked at owing to certain societal expectations saying although people have called her the “poster child for being single”, she would rather be known for living her life “on her terms.”

“I didn’t see enough examples of different versions of how a woman can find happiness and joy and power and sensuality, sexuality, all of that, without it being through the lens of how I’m seen by a man,” Ross said.

“People are like, ‘You’re the poster child for being single,’ ” she said, adding that her response to that is ‘Great.’ While Ross has confirmed that she would still love to get married and have children, she isn’t going to live by societal expectations. “What I would prefer is that I’m the poster child for living my life on my terms,” she said. “And that there’s a version of that for everyone.”

The “Girlfriends” star admitted that it took time for her to get to this point in her life. She said,

“This is something that has really solidified itself into an unbreakable, unshakable foundation in the last four or five years. I don’t live my life for other people. I just totally live it for me.”

She added: “Listen, learning to be me has been a really long journey. I tried being small and feeling things in little ways.

“It took me a long time to get to know myself, to accept myself, and even on some days to really like and love myself. And then it took me a whole other load of years to have the courage to actually live in the world as that person. And it’s been trial and error, chewing on ground glass. It’s been a hard-earned journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. I mean, I came out of the womb-like this. I literally think I was like, ‘Woo-hoo! I’m here. What have you got? Let’s go!’ ”

Tracee spilling on getting older insisted this is “the sexiest” she’s ever felt.

Ross earlier in a chat spoke up about pressures women face in society. In 2020, she spoke with Porter about wishing she had the option to picture her life from a different lens. “I wish I had known there were other choices, not just about how I could be living, but how I could feel about the way my life was. I was raised by society to dream of my wedding, but I wish I had been dreaming of my life.”
