Transforming Africa’s Healthcare Landscape: Celebrating Dr. Funmi Becky Adewara’s Trailblazing Journey

Dr. Funmi Becky Adewara is a trailblazer in the healthcare industry, making a significant impact in transforming Africa’s healthcare landscape through her innovative ideas and passion for leveraging technology. Today, as she celebrates her birthday, we take a look at her remarkable journey and the impact she has made in the healthcare industry.

Dr. Adewara is a multi-award winning UK-based Nigerian British physician and Cambridge-trained bioscience entrepreneur. Her career spans over 15 years, working substantially within the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, with a stint in the pharmaceutical industry as a drug safety physician. She is passionate about changing the poor narrative of Africa’s healthcare landscape and leveraging information technology, which has earned her and her company, Mobihealth, multiple awards globally.

During the United Nations General Assembly, Dr. Adewara was honored with the World Bank’s Sustainable Development Goals’ SDG3 & Her Global Award 2020. This coveted award, a first for Nigeria since its formation, earned her a congratulatory message from Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, in celebration of Nigeria at 60, October 2020. Additionally, Mobihealth made the CISCO Global Problem Solver Finalist list 2021.

Dr. Adewara’s contributions to the healthcare industry have been recognized by several organizations, including the Prof Akinkugbe Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Leadership Award, Zenith Global Health Award for advancing health with technology, and the African Female Tech Founders (FTF) Award sponsored by the UK government. She, along with other winners of the FTF program, were invited by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson Africa-UK investment summit in January 2020.

Mobihealth is also one of the UK Government Accredited COVID-19 test providers for Green, Amber, Fit2Fly and general testing, and it is endorsed by the Nigerian in the Diaspora Commission, providing Nigerians at home and abroad with cheap, quick, and reliable access to COVID-19 test and medical care.

Dr. Adewara is an international speaker and has been featured as a panelist on Forbes Africa and Philips’ Africa Future Health Summit by CNBC, United Nations Committee on Science Technology and Innovation, African Development Bank, Channels TV, BBC radio’s Focus Africa, Channel 5 TV UK, Financial Times.
