Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has celebrated Captain Blessing Liman, the first female pilot in the Nigerian Air Force, for shattering the glass ceiling and paving the way for other women to follow in her footsteps. The Vice President had the pleasure of being flown by Captain Liman, who is now one of five female pilots in the Nigerian Air Force and one of two that fly the President and the Vice President.
During a conversation with Blessing in her cockpit after the flight, Osinbajo expressed his delight in the milestone she has achieved in her career. He also commended her and the other female pilots for being great examples of what is possible when equal opportunities are provided for women.
The Vice President emphasized the need for Nigeria to become more intentional about providing equal opportunities for women, stating that women make up half of the population in Nigeria, and it is essential to eradicate discriminatory practices and old thinking that prevent them from contributing to the nation’s prosperity. He called on Nigerians to support and empower women in all sectors of the economy to achieve greater gender equality.
Captain Liman, who is the first female captain in the Presidential Air-fleet, is an inspiration to young women who aspire to pursue a career in aviation. Her success story highlights the importance of breaking down barriers and empowering women to pursue their dreams in any field they choose.
