Nigeria’s Sprints Queen, Olympic winning Blessing Okagbare has got the headlines and it’s all thanks to setting a new PTS Athletics Meeting Record In Slovakia.
The Guinness World recognised seven time Nigeria 100m champion on Wednesday set a new meet record on Wednesday in Bratislave, Slovakia, smashing the 100m ran 10.98 seconds to win the race, thereby trumping the 11.09 seconds meeting record set in June 1983 by Czech Republic woman, Jarmila Kratochvílová.
“Thank God for another healthy race/win today,” Okagbare wrote on Facebook after the race.
This isn’t the first time she’s rewriting the history books this year.
In February, the six foot plus athlete set Guinness World Record for the most appearances in Diamond League meetings.
Okagbare has now broken 11 seconds thrice this year. She ran her first sub-11 seconds of the season at the USTAF invitational in Eugene, Oregon in April before scorching to a 10.90 seconds personal season’s best at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Doha, Qatar last week.
She is the first and only Nigerian to win a track and field event medals at the World Athletics Championship.
