Oscar winning actress Halle Berry is gearing up to star in director Roland Emmerich’s next sci-fi disaster epic, Moonfall, Lionsgate announced Tuesday.
Frozen’s Josh Gad would also feature in the movie, which begins filming later this year in Montreal, IGN reports.
official plot synopsis for Moonfall, which Emmerich also co-wrote with screenwriters Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen: “In Moonfall, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact, and against all odds, a ragtag team launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love and risking everything to land on the lunar surface and save our planet from annihilation.” Cat Woman star Halle Berry will play “a NASA astronaut-turned-administrator whose previous space mission holds a clue about an impending catastrophe.” She previously played an astronaut in the CBS television series Extant. Roland Emmerich’s othe films credits include: Master of Diaater Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, Godzilla, and Independence Day: Resurgence.
