Hon. Fidelia Salami is a woman whose passion for the development of tourism in Nigeria is infectious. Her recent efforts in expanding the reservoir of knowledge at the frontiers of tourism education in Nigeria have earned her special commendation from the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
Born on April 16th, Hon. Fidelia Salami is a tourism researcher and the Chairman, the Board of Directors, Delta State Tourism Board. Over the years, she has shown an unrelenting passion for returning Delta into the mainstream of tourism. In 2021, she unveiled a platform called ‘Indulge Tourism,’ which aims to prosecute tourism discourse and development. On the platform, she hosted the legendary soldier and two-time head of state, Olusegun Obasanjo, as her first guest.
Hon. Fidelia Salami’s passion for ensuring the availability of quality content tourism books for the secondary education strata lured her into writing the Senior Secondary School 1, 2 and 3 Tourism books. These books were christened in a grand ceremony on July 27th, 2021, which attracted the presence of the immediate past Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, and other eminent personalities from all walks of life.
Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan described the efforts of Hon. Fidelia Salami as not only commendable but an effort that should be appreciated by all Nigerians who understand the importance of tourism and its capacity for revenue generation. The books, he said, will go a long way in raising the consciousness of tourism in the minds of Senior Secondary School Students, who are the youths of the day and leaders of tomorrow.
Hon. Fidelia Salami’s passion for tourism development and education is borne out of a potent desire to see students successfully pass through Senior Secondary School education and acquire the trade skills in tourism. She believes that Nigerian students need to understand the dynamism of how Nigeria can grow in tourism.
Hon. Fidelia Salami has contributed immensely to the growth of the tourism sector in Nigeria. Her books are not only aimed at providing skills and sensitization for education officers and teachers of what tourism is all about but also at how it contributes to lives, livelihoods, individuals, and the country as a whole.
