Born in Kansas City in 1985, the American singer, songwriter, rapper, actress, and producer began performing as a child but professionally began her musical career in 2003 upon releasing a demo album titled The Audition.
The singer got her big break in 2005 after invitation by Big Boi to perform on several OutKast tracks. She was later signed by producer Sean “Puffy” Combs to his Bad Boy Records label.
In 2010, Monáe officially released her debut studio album, The ArchAndroid, through Bad Boy Records; it was warmly received.
In 2011, Monáe was featured as a guest vocalist on fun.’s single “We Are Young”, it achieved both critical and commercial success, topping the charts and garnering Monáe a wider audience. Her second studio album, The Electric Lady, released in 2013 was massive and even became a national anthem amongst music lovers.
Monáe’s third studio album, Dirty Computer, released in 2018 didn’t disappoint either, earning her two nominations at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
