Show On Disney's First Black Princess Set To Hit Screens

Tiana from The Princess and the Frog is getting her own show!

As part of Disney’s Plus Day celebration plans to create original series based on its popular animated films, Princess Tiana, Disney’s first African American princess, is set to hit screens on a whole new adventure.

Coming on the heels of its 2009 hit film The Princess and the Frog, featuring its first ever black heroine named Tiana, writer and director Stella Meghie (The Photograph and The Weekend, First Wives Club, and Grown-ish) has been tapped by the streaming giant for the upcoming musical set to hit screens from Disney + in 2023, the studio revealed.

This marks Meghie’s first foray into the world of animation.

According to Disney’s official description, “Tiana” follows the title character as she “sets off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia, but a calling to her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.”

Moana has also got eyes set for 2023. Animated series for Baymax, Cars, and Zootopia look towards 2022 as spinoffs of their original movie franchises.
