Simone Biles says she was sexually abused by Larry Nassar

US Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is the latest in a string of women who have come forward to accuse former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassarof sexual assault.

In a statement posted on her Twitter, Biles said she too was sexually abused by Nassar who has been accused of sexually abusing more than 140 women and girls under the guise of medical treatment.

Nassar, according to Guardian, is awaiting sentencing in a Michigan court after pleading guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

“There are many reasons that I have been reluctant to share my story, but I know now that it is not my fault,” 20-year-old Biles wrote in her statement.

“For too long I’ve asked myself, ‘Was I too naive? was it my fault?’ I now know the answer to those questions. No. No, it was not my fault. No, I will not and should not carry the guilt that belongs to Larry Nassar, USAG, and others.”

The USA Gymnastics, following Biles’ statement, released one of their own, saying they are heartbroken and sorry Biles and their other athletes have been harmed by Nassar. They said:

USA Gymnastics is absolutely heartbroken, sorry and angry that Simone Biles or any of our athletes have been harmed by the horrific acts of Larry Nassar.

We are our athletes’ advocates. USA Gymnastics will continue to listen to our athletes and our members in our efforts of creating a culture of empowerment with a relentless focus on athlete safety every single day.
