This Story of How Celine Dion Used Up to Explain Her Husband's Death to Her Kids Is Beyond Heartbreaking

We must warn you: Tissues are absolutely necessary before you read on.
OK, now that we have that out of the way (and hopefully you’re clutching a box of Puffs in your lap), we’ve just heard the most heart-wrenching story about how Celine Dion explained the death of her husband, René Angélil to their three children: René-Charles, 15, and twins Eddy and Nelson, five.
Angelil suffered from a long battle with cancer before he passed away earlier this year—and suffice to say, there’s no easy way to tell children (or anyone for that matter) that their father has died. So, Dion turned to the magic and brutal honesty of Disney for help.
“Before I told them that their dad was not there, I talked about when we, everybody, gets sick. Then I said, ‘Do you remember the movie Up? It’s one of our favorites,” Dion recalls in an interview with ABC News’ Deborah Roberts.“‘Oh,’ they said. ‘Yes, Ellie went up. You know, she, with the balloons.’ And I said, ‘Well, yeah…You know, today Papa went up.’”
You can watch that beautiful opening scene of Up below—and we’re sending lots of love and light to Dion. We can’t imagine losing her husband has gotten any easier since she paid a beautiful tribute to him at her first concert since his death back in February.
